Please tell us about yourself, and how you got started providing hosting services over the Internet?

Haralds Jass is the President, Founder and CEO of Superb Internet and takes an active role in all aspects of company operations. Prior to founding Superb Internet in 1996, he created and operated an online interactive entertainment venture named Superb Entertainment (1994 - 1996), the lack of hosting infrastructure for which led to the launch of Superb Internet.

Tell me something about yourself. How much risk are you willing to take to ensure SUPERB 's success?

Superb has always been determined to be "Ahead of the Rest" in the market place. To this extent, we continuously research and analyse potential new web hosting avenues.

We were the first Web hosting company to provide HTTP/1.1-based Virtual Pointer Service - non-unique-IP based virtual Web & E-mail services ($5/month http://yourdomain and E-mail@yourdomain), the first to offer Virtual DNS (ns1 and ns2.yourdomain.com fully qualified DNS), and we are among the forerunners of NT Virtual Pointer (non-IP) virtual service, as well as Superb Power Server (Virtual Private Server technology) providers. We are a pioneer in opening up new areas in advanced web hosting services.

We are continually evaluating new technologies and innovations and as it becomes clear that one will gain market prevalence, we evaluate our current services and decide whether or not these new technologies are appropriate to our product mix and our place in the marketplace. Once we have do so, we then decide whether or not we will simply enhance our services accordingly or in many cases, decide to take these technologies and innovations to another level, in order for Superb to continue to be a leader with technologies and services which are "Ahead of the Rest".

While Superb was founded in 1996, Superb's management team has been involved with web hosting since 1993.

 
How do you build strong customer relationships with your current customers?

Besides the above mentioned dedication to serving the customer's needs, Superb undertakes to ensure that our customers participate in the direction and growth of the company. To this end, we regularly conduct customer surveys in order to get first hand, what our customers would like to see in both our existing and new service offerings.

At Superb, we believe in providing stable, top-quality services and support at affordable and competitive prices. We have never raised our prices, nor plan to do so. We regularly conduct market studies, to ensure our prices are competitive and at times may reduce them, but only to the extent where we can provide quality service without compromises.

At Superb Internet, we do not cut corners. Quality always comes first. We have long term plans and a company vision set for years ahead. Our customers can rest assured that we are here now, and will be here for many years.

 
Can you please share with us your vision of SUPERB in the year 2003?

The industry has been and continues to move towards higher levels of performance and service. We are proud to be one of the first web hosting companies to have introduced a 100% uptime, no packet loss, sub-3ms latency SLA in January of 2001. Since then, we've seen a few of our competitors match it, however, most are still working based on
simpler, "first generation," 99.9% uptime SLAs. We believe that a year from now, in order to stay competitive, hosting companies will need to further increase their network reliability and redundancy and offer and - most important of all - live up to, a "second generation" 100% uptime SLA similar to ours (also covering other key
issues, such as packet loss and latency), especially for the higher-end of services.

On the services front, the move towards greater automation, ease-of-use and integration continues and will continue for the coming few years. I believe that the focus we'll see in the coming year or two will be on adding more features within the scope of automated ease-to-use services, that is - ensuring that functionality and features are not compromised to the "ease-of-use," that both the beginner and power users have all the features they need available, with the focus shifting to better meeting the needs of the latter.

Five years from now, the Internet will be much more accessible and may even become the prevailing medium of choice in most countries, especially developing nations as they are not constrained by legacy systems. In many of these countries, IP-based technology will be the medium of choice and a large percentage of the population will derive not only the Internet, but also their telephone and TV over an IP-based system. Additionally, as technology and infrastructure continues to develop and improve, the streaming media marketplace will see a tremendous resurgence, as true real-time experiences become a reality. It will be essential that these companies at the heart of this transformation, especially the leading-edge web hosting companies such as Superb to be able to deliver a more elevated, even more mission-critical level of service such as 100% uptime, low latency and no packet loss. Additionally these companies will have to provide content which is compatible and accessible to a wide range of IP-based appliances, not just PCs, and Macs or Internet-enabled TVs and do so at both broadband and narrowband frequencies.
