What is the greatest challenge confronting your web hosting business today, and how are you responding to that challenge?

 As a technology company, we constantly try to stay ahead of the curve of new and complex technologies and applications. Rackspace is known for its Fanatical Support, so it is imperative that we stay abreast of these technologies in order to support our customers properly. In order to do this, we have developed strong relationship with industry leaders like Microsoft, Dell and RedHat to make sure we are trained on and running the latest hardware and software in advance of customer demand. We're quickly able to develop expertise on the new technology, and pass that expertise along to our customers.

Founded in 1998, Rackspace Managed Hosting provides managed Web hosting services to enterprises of all sizes. We supply all the servers, software, bandwidth and management needed to run almost any hosted application - from Internet to enterprise. 

Early on, our founders recognized that customers were looking for more than just servers - they needed service. We focused our attention on the customer, pioneering the "managed hosting" concept and coining the phrase "Fanatical Support" to describe our unique level of customer service. This business model has made us one of the largest companies in the Web hosting market today, with more than 550,000 domains under management. Our customers are as fanatical about us as we are about them - 97% would refer us to a friend.

We run four state-of-the-art, secure data centers - two in San Antonio, Texas, one in Herndon, Virginia, and one in London, England. Naturally, they are equipped with the very latest technology and maintained to telco standards by our expert network engineers to ensure maximum security and uptime for our customers' servers. We use biometric hand scanners and passcards to restrict access to our data centers, and only our highly-trained, level three technicians are allowed into the controlled environment in which the servers are housed. Our fast, reliable network is powered by UUNET, AT&T, Sprint, Qwest and SBC to ensure maximum network uptime - and has been running at 100% for the last two years.

Naturally, a client base this diverse has many different requirements. We cater to these needs by offering flexible, scalable solutions - from single servers to complex clusters - on a variety of platforms. In the four years of our existence, we have developed deep technical expertise in managing and maintaining Linux, Solaris, BSD and Windows 2000 servers, and created a comprehensive suite of tools and support documentation to troubleshoot any problems our customers may encounter.
